The Solent Metal Detecting Club was formed over 15 years ago,and consists of a small informal group of enthusiasts who meet monthly in a private room at a local Club.. Most members have been detecting for many years and have attained a vast knowledge of detecting and it's associated activities, One of our members has been with the Club since its commencement. The monthly gathering is very informal, members bring along 'finds' made during the previous month for general discussion and possible identification and future events are discussed. We have no regular Club fees, so to cover the cost of hiring the room we usually have a raffle. We have Visiting speakers to give talks on archeology and history, also Winchester Museum Finds Liaison officer Robert Webley attends at regular intervals to record finds for the Portable Antiquities Scheme.
The Club has hosted activity's at local Fetes for children and adults raising money to give financial support to several charities including £400.00 to Le Court Home for the disabled.
