Welcome to Solent Metal Detecting Club

The Solent Metal Detecting Club was formed over 15 years ago,and consists of a small informal group of enthusiasts who meet monthly in a private room at a local Public House. Most members have been detecting for many years and have attained a vast knowledge of detecting and it's associated activities, One of our members has been with the Club since its commencement.
The monthly gathering is very informal, members bring along 'finds' made during the previous month for general discussion and possible identification and future events are discussed. We have no regular Club fees, so to cover the cost of hiring the room we usually have a raffle. We have Visiting speakers to give talks on archeology and history, also Winchester Museum Finds Liaison officer Robert Webley attends at regular intervals to record finds for the Portable Antiquities Scheme.

All members are required to join one of the national federations such as F.I.D or N.C.M.D in order to obtain insurance coverage and identity cards. New members are only accepted if recommended and accompanied by an existing member.

For a small fee a member of the Club is available to give a talk on the hobby to other clubs or associations. This talk includes a slide show, display cases of artifacts recovered, a machine demonstration, a display of associated books and a history of the hobby.

By charging ourselves £3.00 a member each time we search an area of land we have in the last four years donated £3500.00 to The Rosemary Foundation Nursing Trust, which is a registered Charity.

In May 2001 we donated £500 to the Hampshire Agricultural Benevolent Fund to assist those who have felt the effect of the Foot and Mouth Crisis.

The Club has hosted activity's at local Fetes for children and adults raising money to give financial support to several charities including £400.00 to Le Court Home for the disabled. Fete proceeds also given to Bordean House 'Sue Ryder', Titchfield Animal Sanctuary, Froxfield Parish' Church, High Cross Church, Denmead Youth Club, Foxhollow Animal Sanctuary, Stubbington Ark and Hawkley Church. Displays have also been provided at Lions Club Havant, Winchester Museum and Portsmouth Museum.
All present and new members are expected to participate in any future charity or Club publicity events.

The Club relies upon the goodwill of Landowners who will allow the Club to search land on the provision that payments are made to a local cause or charitable organization.
If you support a local worthy cause and have land available for us to search, or know of any Landowner who would allow the Club to search and would like your organization to receive donations then please contact myself or one of our members. worthycause@solent-detecting-club.co.uk

All at The Rosemary Foundation were absolutely delighted when Myles and Alison Bessborough accepted their invitation to become their Patrons. They have already taken a very close interest in what goes on and also in the Foundations plans for the future.
